If you have Dell Equallogic SAN Headquarters running on your network, it’ll inform you of any “conditions” that require your attention. When it’s time for a firmware upgrade you’ll receive a notification message similar to the one below.

Critical conditions:

  • 3/18/2014 4:28:28 AM to 3/18/2014 10:03:02 AM
    • [ID: 3.7] Critical: Disk firmware on drive 13 for member ArrayName is out of date, please contact your support provider.  Important disk support information: Model Number-ST9600205SS     , Firmware Revision-CN04, and Serial Number-SerialNumber

Latest firmware can be obtained at https://eqlsupport.del.com under the Downloads section> PS Series Firmware.

Make sure your HDD model# is on the Affected HDD list, then download Drive Firmware Update Utility v4.0 zip file. You can see what your hard drive model numbers are via the Equallogic Group Manager utility.

Once you download the kit_V4.0_DriveFw_1031648492.zip file, go ahead and extract it.

Next, connect to the management IP of your Equallogic array via FTP and upload the file. Once completed successfully, you’ll see it listed in the root directory.

SSH to the management IP of your Equallogic array.

Once logged in, type update.

Finally, you’ll see a message informing you the update was completed successfully.
