User that receives massive amounts of emails and has a lot of client-side email rules defined in Outlook email client reported that when trying to create a new rule or enable disabled rules he receives the following error message:

One or more rules cannot be uploaded to Microsoft Exchange and have been deactivated. This could be because some of the parameters are not supported, or there is insufficient space to store all of your rules.

Per Microsoft the default mailbox rules quota is 64 KB for mailboxes on Microsoft Exchange server 2007, 2010 and 2013.

Note that for Microsoft Exchange 2003 mailboxes default rules quota is 32KB and cannot be changed.

To resolve this issue we need to increase the mailbox rules quota. Maximum value is 256KB.

On your Exchange server, start the Exchange Management Shell and run the following command:

set-mailbox “<User Display Name>” -RulesQuota 256KB
