To test MTU value use the ping command with the –f –l [MTU_Size] switches:

ping 4.2.2.2 –f –l 1440

Below shows sending of ICMP packets exceeding the MTU size of the workstation/networking equipment.

To display the current MTU values set for your Network Interfaces in Windows use:

netsh interface ipv4 show interfaces

To modify the MTU value for a particular network interface use:

netsh interfaces ipv4 set subinterface “Interface Name” mtu=Value store=persistent

where Interface name could be i.e. Local Area Connection, and the Value is 1300 by default in Windows 7.
